Best Tips For Great Engagement Photos

Hi Friends, we need to talk about engagement photos! I know, I know, it sounds like one more thing to add to the never-ending wedding to-do list, but trust me, it’s totally worth it. Engagement photos are like a sneak peek into your love story. Plus, they’re super fun to take (I promise!). In this post, you will find our top tips on how to have the best engagement photos.

Your Photographer

Every wedding photography collection that I offer comes with a complimentary engagement session. Engagement sessions are an important part of your photography experience. I also don’t want to be a stranger on your big day! It leads to less stress and more confidence when we have already worked together. For this reason, I always encourage an engagement session for all of my couples. I think the best way to do that is to do an engagement session together.

Picking Your Engagement Session Location

First things first, location is everything. Think about places that hold special meaning to you as a couple. Maybe it’s the park where you had your first date or the beach where you spent your summers together. Choosing a location that’s meaningful to you will instantly add a personal touch to your photos and make them even more special. Of course, if you have no idea of a location I will be there to help you! One part of my job is to location scout. Honestly, I will do this either way so I know the best spots within each location!

Picking Your Engagement Outfits

Now let’s talk outfits. This is the fun part! Coordinate your outfits, but don’t go too matchy-matchy. You want to complement each other, not look like you’re wearing a uniform. Pick colors and styles that flatter both of you and make you feel confident. And don’t forget the accessories! A cute hat, statement earrings, or a short veil can add that extra touch of personality. I go into more detail about this in my Engagement Session Guide I provide after booking. I’m also happy to take a look at photos if you need extra advice!

Don’t Stress About It

Take a moment to enjoy the experience. This session is all about celebrating your love and the exciting journey you’re about to embark on. So take a deep breath, let go of any nerves, and soak up every second. It’ll make for even better photos, I promise.

With that being said, don’t stress about posing! As a photographer, even if I am putting a couple in a pose I will tell them where to put their hands, feet, etc. so they aren’t standing there feeling awkward. Remember, the best photos happen when you’re relaxed and just enjoying each other’s company. Be yourselves, laugh, cuddle, and let your photographer guide you. If they are professional, they will know how to capture your natural chemistry. Think of this as a special date rather than a photoshoot!

The most important thing is to have fun and be yourself. Your love story is unique and beautiful, and I can’t wait to see it come alive in those images.
