What Is The Definition of Elope?
As years have gone on, eloping has become more and more popular. However, I know they’re still lots of people out there that don’t really know what the definition of elopement is. The basic definition of eloping is “to run away secretly with the intention of getting married.” So then the next question might be why would I choose to elope instead of having a big wedding? So here is a list of those reasons. If any of these reasons resonate with you, then maybe eloping is perfect for you two!
Wedding planning can be extremely stressful. With the long list of wedding vendors to find, time crunch, color palette, decor choices, who to invite, etc. The list really goes on and on. Your wedding day and planning are supposed to be one of the happiest times of your life, not extremely stressful. An elopement takes so many of those nerve-racking decisions making things away. With planning to elope all you have to worry about is where you want to say your vows, book a photographer, and maybe a videographer, find outfits, and a florist if you’d like a bouquet. Other than that you don’t have to worry about anything else!
When you consider to elope, you typically are thinking of somewhere that isn’t your typical wedding venue. If you love to travel and see amazing destinations, this is an amazing way to incorporate that into your special day. Having little to no people with you also expands the horizons, there are very few limitations here! Is there a dream destination you’ve been dying to see but just have been putting it off? Well now is the perfect time to visit! I mean, what would be a better excuse but to go marry your forever partner? This could even be the start of your honeymoon, try some new spots locally that same day, or just go ahead and stay a few nights. Not to mention the amazing photographs you will have!
New Level of Intimacy
Let’s be honest, you really have no alone time during a traditional wedding even though the day is about you two! I have photographed so many weddings where the Bride was so stressed she was just ready to have it over with. Elopements allow you to be fully present with your partner and really take this special time together. You don’t have to worry about to-do lists, guests, timelines, etc. During your elopement, you won’t have to worry about giving attention to others. Eloping is quiet and intimate. Just imagine facing each other, holding hands, and expressing your undeniable love for each other with an incredible scene behind you. If that’s not unforgettable, I don’t know what is.
We all the stories of the friend who is upset they aren’t a bridesmaid, the family member upset they weren’t invited, or the friend making the day all about them. Eloping means you don’t have to worry about that because it’s all by your rules. If you want just you and your partner, great! If you have to have a few of the people that mean the most to you, also great! But now you don’t have to stress about the bridal party, Aunt Betty getting drunk to cause a scene, and the clique spreading rumors! Eloping allows you to cut all the drama out without any guilt.
As you start to plan a big wedding I’m sure everyone realizes how expensive it is and the bigger the guest list, the more money! The average cost of a wedding in the USA is 30k according to NerdWallet! The majority of that cost does come from the reception and how much feeding and entertaining the guests cost. To some couples, this is important because they love to entertain, but this day is about your love, not the guest, and if they have a gourmet meal. So if you want to cut costs but still have a beautiful celebration, having a destination elopement is the way to go!
If photography is a high priority to you then a destination eloping is the perfect fit. Documenting the intimate, quiet moments of this celebration is so important and to have an incredible scene amongst you is breathtaking. Amazing photography will help you be able to revisit these moments and the amazing experiences that you will have together.
If you don’t like to be the center of attention then eloping is the way to go. Walking down the aisle and saying your vows in front of a crowd may not seem like you and that’s okay! If taking a flight to Asheville, North Carolina on top of a mountain sounds better to you, then do it!
You know how important photography is for documenting your destination elopement, now it’s time to start planning!
I’m happy to help you plan your elopement in Georgia, South Carolina, anywhere in the United States, or even in another country.
